We are a community of families, friends, history, education and enriching lives.

The Window Workshop was a huge Success!

Stacy Grinsfelder, wood window restoration educator, gave a an immersive, work-forward, crash course in traditional repair and rehabilitation techniques for wooden windows right here in Silver Lake! Participants began by familiarizing themselves with lead-safe practices and reviewing the essential tools of the trade. Then, they dove into the practical aspect of the workshop, refurbishing one sash from start to finish. This comprehensive experience covered the entire window restoration process, including sash removal, stripping, repair, sanding, glazing, and painting.

On April 16th, Brad Huber accepted an award from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester. Brad Huber was notified that his cottage at 6967 Fillmore Avenue was awarded a 2024 New York State Historic Preservation Award. The notice stated, “You did outstanding work to preserve the historic integrity and character of this important landmark of the Silver Lake community. We admire and appreciate all that you do to preserve and revive New York’s rich heritage.”  The award was presented during the NY Statewide Preservation Conference. We are fortunate to have a neighbor who not only preserved and beautified his cottage, but also helped to bring attention to our historic treasures. Congratulations Brad!
